The area of Kharkiv region is 31,418 thousand km², which is 5,21% of the area of the sovereign and independent state 🇺🇦 Ukraine, and ranks 4th among other Ukrainian regions in terms of territory. Kharkiv region borders on Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Sumy regions of Ukraine and Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The regional center is the city Kharkiv. Cities of regional and district significance in Kharkiv region: Krasnograd, Lozova, Kivsharivka, Izyum, Vovchansk, Chuhuyiv, Dergachi, Pervomaysky, Bogodukhiv, Kup'yansk, Zmiiv, Balakliya, Slobozhanske, Pisochyn, Solonytsivka, Merefa, Nova Vodolaga, Lyubotyn. Kharkiv region consists of seven districts: Bogodukhiv district, Izyum district, Krasnograd district, Kup'yansky district, Lozova district, Kharkiv district, Chuhuyiv district. Large regional water bodies: Siversky Donets river, Oskil river, Udy river, Bereka river, Lyman lake, Krasnopavlivske reservoir, Oskilske reservoir, Dnipro-Donbas water canal.
